What's New in Plesk Obsidian
Plesk for Windows
Plesk is the only web hosting control panel for Windows.
Install Plesk for Windows using our Plesk Web Installer.
New workflow of creating websites
Create a new website using a predefined list of popular options:
- Create a blank site (the previous default).
- Create a WordPress site.
- Upload content using File Manager after website’s creation.
- Connect a Git repository.
- Import website from another hosting.
The new screen is disabled by default. To enable it, add the following lines to the panel.ini file:
[domainManagement] applicationWizard.enabled = true
- Customize the list of available templates via
panel.ini
.
The further steps became rather simpler:
- Give your website a name.
- Keep the data that Plesk prefills (you can edit them later if necessary).
- See the progress of your website being created.
Revamped File Manager
Enjoy a wide range of File Manager features:
- Recover accidentally deleted files from the Recycle Bin.
-
Easily fill your website with content. You can upload the website files in the following ways:
- Upload files and directories using Drag and Drop.
- Upload files via URL.
- Upload and extract ZIP, RAR, TAR, TGZ, and TAR.GZ archives.
- Search for files by name (even a part of a file name is fine) or content.
- (Plesk for Linux) Change file permissions recursively. Plesk for Windows has always supported that.
- Preview images.
- Use SVG files.
Monitoring
Keep informed about server and website availability.
- Added integration with 360 Monitoring, a new tool present in the Plesk 360 cloud service.
- 360 Monitoring brings a couple of useful features, for example, monitoring of website availability, various notification channels, and more.
- Integrating Plesk servers with 360 Monitoring allows monitoring infrastructure centralized from one Plesk 360 interface.
- In Built-in Monitoring mode with Cgroups Manager license is possible to monitor CPU, Memory, Disk usage generated by each subscription.
DNS Helper
DNS Helper will give you a hand with putting your websites online, namely:
- Checking if a domain name resolves to the Plesk server IP address. If it does not, DNS Helper informs how to fix the issue.
- Giving detailed instructions on how to configure and manage DNS records of a domain on the domain registrar side. Instructions for more than 30 registrars are available.
Resolvable domains and hostnames
- Get a website accessible from the Internet even if you have not purchased a domain name yet. To do so, choose a temporary domain name provided by Plesk when you create a website. Evaluate Plesk and dive into new projects even faster!
- Your Plesk server is now automatically secured with an SSL/TLS certificate from Let’s Encrypt even if the server does not have a resolvable hostname. To achieve this, Plesk generates a temporary server hostname for which Let’s Encrypt issues a certificate. People visiting Plesk will no longer see a warning about an untrusted connection!
Website card improvements
-
Manage WordPress websites in Websites & Domains right on the domain cards:
- Navigate easier with a new separate tab that groups the most popular actions for WordPress websites. Switch between Plesk and WordPress dashboards in one click.
- Use a separate view to focus on working with a particular website.
- Added “Connection Info” to the Dashboard in the Dynamic List. Clicking it opens a drawer where users can easily view and change access information for FTP accounts and databases.
SSL It!
Use SSL It! to keep your server and websites secured at all times with SSL/TLS certificates from the leading and trusted certificate authorities (CAs):
- New certificates from Sectigo become available in SSL It!. Sectigo is the world's largest commercial Certificate Authority with more than 700,000 customers and over 20 years of experience in online trust. Sectigo offers the most comprehensive suite of SSL certificates for literally every budget and use case.
- Revamped the look of the extension's screen with the list of certificates available for purchase.
- The extension now shows more details about issuance of paid certificates and pending orders of purchased certificates.
- Customers of certain countries can now buy certificates in Plesk itself without going to Plesk Online Store.
- The extension can now secure a domain alias with a certificate issued for the alias alone (without the main domain name).
PHP Composer
- Set up environment variables
- Edit your composer.json
- Run the Install and Update commands
Install and update dependencies with one click.
No need to remember the commands and options you have to run to install dependencies, generate classmap, or run tests. Plesk takes care of it with a click of a button.
Review the installed dependencies and decide if updating them makes sense.
Updating dependencies is vital for security but can lead to a broken website. Handy UI indicators clearly show you if updating is likely to cause trouble (major updates are riskier than minor ones).
- Your website will automatically use the PHP version specified in composer.json.
- Composer is run using the correct PHP handler (not the system default, but the one that is used by the particular website).
Repair Kit
Detect and resolve issues with Plesk and Plesk services automatically using a powerful self-repair tool, Repair Kit:
- See the list of processes running on the server.
- Filter the processes related to domains.
- Kill processes.
- See the total RAM, CPU, and Disk usage of all processes running on the server or of individual processes.
- See the list of MySQL queries and processes.
- Find the reason why MySQL consumes a lot of resources and which domain is to blame.
- Diagnose issues that impact the Plesk server and website availability.
- Resolve the issues by applying suggestions with predefined settings.
- See Network I/O for a process.
Up-to-date, performant, and stable Plesk
- Support of new OSes: AlmaLinux OS and Windows 2022 are supported. The support of Rocky Linux is expected in Q1 2022.
-
Replaced Gzip with ZSTD as the default compression method for backup and restore operations in Plesk. On multi-CPU servers, depending on the type of data being backed up, this provides the following benefits:
- Reduces the backup size by up to 20%.
- Reduces the CPU load by up to 25%.
- Reduces the backup creation time by up to 2x (fast), and by up to 4x (fastest), based on the compression level.
- Improved stability and isolation of websites that use PHP-FPM handlers. It is now possible to choose the dedicated PHP-FPM handler for each website.
- The latest Node.js LTS versions installation and update are now available through the renewed Node.js extension. Versions 10, 12 and 14 are supported at the moment. To enable Node.JS application hosting, install the Node.JS extension.
-
Website performance improvements:
- Brotli compression for NGINX
- Microsoft IIS compression
- Plesk on Cloud now automatically updates its public and private IP addresses if it was changed after the server reboot. This improvement works for Plesk on Alibaba Cloud, Amazon EC2, Amazon Lightsail, DigitalOcean, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
- We have started automatically building QCOW2-images, the images contain the up-to-date OS and the new version of Plesk on top of it. If your environment supports this standard, you don't need to prepare your own images; to deploy and start a new Plesk instance became much easier; just start using QCOW2-images from https://autoinstall.plesk.com/images/ in your scripts.
