To install a license on a Plesk server, bind the license to the IP address of the corresponding server.

When Plesk connects to the Plesk licensing servers, the license is installed on the Plesk server.

To bind a licenses to your server’s IP address for automatic license deployment:

  1. In Partner Central, go to the Manage Licenses tab and click the license number.

  2. In the menu, click More > Bind to IP address.

  3. Specify the IP address you wand to bind the license to and IP binging behavior (see the IP binding behavior section below).

  4. In the Plesk user interface, click the Retrieve Keys button (Tools & Settings > License Management).

If the IP address of the Plesk server is the same as the IP address you specified in Partner Central, the license will be installed to Plesk automatically.

Binding a License to Another IP Address

If the IP address of the server running the product has been changed, you can specify the new IP address to renew the binding of your existing license to it.

To bind a license to another IP address, go to the Manage Licenses tab and click the license number. Then select More > Change Binding to IP Addresses from the menu.

Removing a Binding to an IP Address

If you do not want your product to connect to the Plesk licensing servers for automatic license installation, remove the existing binding of your license to the product server’s IP address. To do this, go to the Manage Licenses tab and click the license number. Then select More > Remove Binding to IP Address from the menu.

IP Address Conflict Resolution

If the system already contains a license that is bound to the same IP address as the new license that you are activating, you will see the Reset option, which helps resolve this conflict. If you click Reset, the new license will be successfully created, and the binding of the existing license to the same IP address will be removed.

IP Binding Behavior

When you bind a Plesk license to an IP address, you can specify one of two possible types of the license behavior:

  • Lookup only (the default behavior). In this case, there are no restrictions on the IP address where a license can be used. This is applicable in the situation when you have a Plesk server with a production license installed and bound to the server’s IP address, and want to reinstall Plesk. In this case, Plesk will connect to Plesk licensing server and pass the server’s IP address. The license that is bound to this IP address will be returned to Plesk.
  • Lookup and Restrict. In this case, a license is restricted to be used only on the IP address it is bound to. That is, when Plesk connects to Plesk licensing server and passes the Plesk server’s IP address to it, the license is returned only if the IP address it is bound to corresponds to the passed server address. This can protect your license from piracy: If somebody will copy your license file to another server, the update of the license on that server will not be possible.

To specify the IP binding behavior for a particular license:

  1. In Partner Central, go to the  Manage Licenses tab and click the license number.
  2. In the menu, click  MoreBind to IP address and in the IP binding behavior menu select Lookup only or Lookup and Restrict.
